Tips for Decoration

Here are some tips which will help you to choose the idea which suits your baby shower event and make it a unique and memorable experience for the would-be mom and all the other guests.
Select a Theme: The first step towards decorating would be to select a theme and then plan the decorative elements and activities according to it. Some of the common themes used are, Winnie the Pooh, Noah's Ark, Lady Bug, Circus, Teddy Bear, etc. However, use your imaginations to think of new themes such as Fairy Tale characters, Angels, favorite cartoon characters, etc.
Choose a Color Scheme: Once the theme is decided, choose a color. Although pink (for baby girls), blue (for baby boys) and yellow (if the gender is unknown) are some of the commonly used colors for baby showers, you are free to use other ones of your choice. Just keep in mind that the color you choose should compliment your party theme and decorations.
Banners: Words welcoming the baby or naming the event or speaking about the gender (if known) can be used. You can use poster boards for making these banners.
Balloons: Balloons are an age-old way of celebrating all kinds of occasions and baby showers are no exception to that. You can fill lots of balloons or buy balloon bouquets and fill them with helium so that they stick to the roof of the room and tie ribbons at the end of their strings. Choose the color of the balloon according to the color scheme. You may also buy balloons of different shapes of animals or characters.
Clothesline and Streamers: A clothesline can add a cute look to your shower decorations. You can hang diapers, bibs, baby clothes, onesies, socks, baby blankets, baby towels, etc. on it, which the mother can take away with her after the occasion. These would be very useful when the baby arrives. Streamers, matching with the color scheme hung across the room adds to the beauty and texture of your decorations. Make sure that you hang them high enough so that they do not come in the way.
Party Accessories: You can use the shape of diapers or bibs for napkins and table mats and baby bottles for cups and also to store ketchup or mayonnaise.
Centerpiece: You can keep fruits such as watermelons with designer curves or beautifully designed cakes with the name of the baby or the mother on it. Instead of going for conventional shape, you may use specific shapes relevant to the baby such as a baby duck or a diaper. Alternatively, you can keep baby tubs or cribs with balloons, ribbons. and frills all around it. The guests can keep their gifts inside the tub.
Party Favors and Gifts: Add party favors such as mints, chocolates, etc. for the guests and keep them busy with games and activities. You can also keep paper tags on each table with satin laces or ribbons tying them together. The guests may write a line for the mother and the baby.
At the end, the mother can collect all the tags and keep with her as a souvenir of the special occasion. Select the game and other activities according to the party theme. You can check out for various game ideas online. You may arrange small gift packs with candles, dry fruits, nuts, candies, etc. to carry back home.
While making the arrangements for the shower decorations you should keep in mind that it should not be too clumsy or complicated. Also, remember that the gender of the baby, if known, has to be considered while decorating the party area.
