Parents have a major role to play in their child's success in school. Although, the child spends a long time learning in school than at home, there is a lot that parents can do at home to guide their child. Parents involvement can make a lot of difference to improve the child's academic progress.

This will offer a kind of revision of the topic and will be better understood by the child. Reading is also a very helpful step in guiding your child while studying. Apart from reading a specific topic, it is important to read something for your child that increases his/her general knowledge and helps to develop a proper perspective to look things.

Many parents tend to compare their child with other children. But, they should understand that every child is unique and cannot be and perform like others. He/she possesses his/her own skills and works accordingly. If you force your child to be like others, it will be demotivating and depressing for him/her.

Although it is advisable to deal with your child softly, somewhere, there must be a kind of rule set and that has to be followed strictly by the child especially at the time of homework. Make a timetable which has equal time for study, play and extracurricular activities.

A teacher can tell you exactly the areas where the child is doing perfect and which ones need improvement. Since, the teaching methods have changed over time, many parents are not able to understand what exactly happens at school and cannot help the child in doing the given task.

This problem can be solved only if there is a regular communication between parents and teachers. There are parent-teacher meetings organized in schools, but it becomes a very general kind of discussion where there is no scope to deal with the concerns of an individual child.

Parents should be allowed to meet the teachers regularly from time to time to discuss any problems they come across regarding their child's study.
