How to Make Butternut Squash Baby Food

One of the main reasons that makes butternut squash a much sought-after baby food is its color. Researchers say that kids are always attracted by bright colors. Babies get tempted with the bright orange color of the pulp, thereby enjoying it when being fed.

Butternut Squash Puree

A large portion of baby food comprises purees. It forms a healthy meal for your baby and the taste developed as result of combing different types of vegetables is simply loved by them. Ingredients
  • Butternut squash, 100 g
  • Sweet potato, 1
  • Carrot, 1/2
  • Beet, 1/2
  • Sugar, ½ tsp
  • Salt, ¼ tsp

Preparation
Scoop out the pulp from the butternut squash. Peel the sweet potatoes.
Boil them in a pressure cooker for 5 minutes or else bake in an oven at 375 °F for 40 minutes. Make the puree in a food processor. Add salt and sugar in desired proportion. Cool the mixture and feed your baby. If you are adding chicken, then make sure that they have been boiled properly.

Butternut Squash Smoothie

Smoothies are prepared by blending different varieties of fruits into the butternut squash. Choose the nutrient laden juicy fruits. The combination of apples, plums, grapefruits, pears and banana is excellent. However, do not make it too heavy. Add one or two fruits with the butternut squash and alternate the varieties every time. This way your baby will also develop his sense of taste.
Ingredients
  • Butternut squash, 100 g
  • Banana, 1/2
  • Apple, 2 slices
  • Honey, 1 tsp
  • Water, ½ cup
Preparation
Boil the pulp of the butternut squash completely. Mix with the fruits and blend it in a processor. Dilute the smoothie with water and bring it to the desired consistency. Mix it with honey, sugar and jaggery to let your baby enjoy the pulpy delight.

Butternut Squash Shake

Butternut squash when combined with milk, tastes utterly delicious. Your kid derives all the essential nutrients from milk as well as from butternut squash. You can also use powdered milk for making the shake. We provide you the recipe over here.

  • Butternut squash, 100 g
  • Milk, 1 bottle
  • Sugar, 1 tsp
Preparation
Boil the butternut squash and shake it with milk in a food processor. Add honey or sugar for rendering it sweet. If you are using milk powder, then you have to dissolve it first in warm water to prevent coagulation. Then mix the boiled pulp and blend in a processor.

Butternut Squash Pudding

Rice pudding is heavy and it provides energy to your kid. You can combine the pudding with a few slices of butternut squash. Also add cashews and cardamom to the pudding to enhance its flavor. Have a look at the recipe.
Ingredients
  • Butternut squash, 50 g
  • Rice grains/ rice powder 4 tsp
  • Milk, 3 cups
  • Honey/sugar, 2 tsps
Preparation
Boil rice grains in water or milk. Soak the rice powder in warm water for at least 20 minutes if you are using it as an alternative to grains.
Boil the butternut squash as explained in the aforementioned content. Grind the cashews and cardamom in a mixer. Pour the pulp and boiled rice in a container and add some more milk. Also combine cashew paste and sugar/honey. Cover the container and heat for 10 minutes followed by stirring.
