A few days ago, your kid pushed away a plate of veggies. Now he doesn’t want to taste a bite of casserole. Sounds familiar, right?

Yes, it’s very normal when young children have a certain level of pickiness. It’s just because they experience new foods and flavors at this stage.
Around 2 to 5 years old children usually happen to be picky. Some might eventually outgrow it, but what should you do in the meantime? You have to understand why your kid is fussy when it comes to food.

It tastes so bad!

Usually, children are lovers of sweeter flavors. They naturally want higher-calorie foods as they grow so quickly. In fact, 1 out of 4 children is born with a gene which makes him very sensitive to bitter tastes. And that’s why your little one doesn’t like to eat Brussel sprouts or Cauliflower.

How to handle it

You should add Broccoli in the menu for good. You can serve it in many ways, like in a salad, or as a soup or puree. Your kid needs to get food on his plate five to ten times before he eats more of it. You can also add in a few leaves of romaine if he likes iceberg salads.

I’m not hungry!

Kids’ growth slows down when they become more than 2 years old. At this stage, they are more likely not to have much of an appetite on a particular day. His weight and height depend on the doctor’s visit, so don’t get worried when picky eating pops up suddenly.

How to handle it

Set a schedule with three meals and two snack time. It helps the children to get enough appetite for meals.

Your kid may have a medical issue

Health condition can also be a reason for his pickiness. It’s a red flag when he is overly anxious around food and often refuses to come to the table. A food allergy can be the reason or he might have a sensory processing disorder.

How to handle it

You have to build healthy eating habits. Some general habits can also help your child to get off a picky eating phase.
Be a role model for them. They always follow your example so you have to lead their way. It’s always fun for them when you try making new foods.

Make a un test setting out a number of dishes and have a taste, and everyone has to rate the food on a scale of 2 to 10. It also helps them to get interested in eating habits.
